Don't miss this fantastic photographic opportunity to join award winning photographer Craig McCord for this Kansas photography adventure.  Together we will explore and photograph the geological formations of Monument Rocks of Kansas.

This location is also a popular destination for photographing the night sky. The areas offer breathtaking views of the Milky Way, making them ideal spots for night sky photography. So, not only will we capture the natural formations of Monument Rocks during the day, but we will also create dramatic Milky Way compositions above the unique rock formations of this incredible area of Kansas.

This workshop is limited to ONLY 6 people.

During this workshop we will have an opportunity to shoot the setting sun amongst these chalk and limestone formations and consider compositional options for the night sky.  This time of year, the Milky Way will be visible soon after dark.

 You will learn:  

- Camera Settings and effective use of histograms for proper exposures

- Focusing techniques for landscapes and night sky photography

- Star trails Milky Way techniques

- Light Painting tools and techniques

Craig will actively work with each participant to ensure you understand the technical considerations and be sure you come away with some striking images. Also included will be an optional follow-up Zoom session to go over some post processing techniques of your images.

FEE: $450.  This includes only workshop instruction and an optional post workshop Zoom meeting for image review and a post processing demonstration. Kansas Night Sky at Monument Rocks

Where: Monumont Rocks, is located 20 miles south of Oakley on U.S. 83, then 4 miles east on Jayhawk Road, 3 miles south, and 1 mile east (dry weather road only). Or, 18 miles north of Scott City, east 2 miles on Dakota Road, 1 mile north, 3 1/2  miles east, and 2 1/2 miles .

When:  On August 2nd, we will meet up at 4:00pm in the lobby of the Kansas Country Inn in Oakley, 3538 US 40, Oakley, KS 67748, Ph: 781-672-3131. You are responsible for making your own lodging reservations. Before traveling on to Monument Rocks, we will discuss some techniques, review any restrictions, safety, and other general information before proceeding.   We will then travel to the shooting location.  We should have plenty of time to explore and photograph the formations of Monument Rocks as sunset approaches. the formations against the Kansas sky as sunset approaches. We will also consider ideal ideal locations to set up our night sky session.

Weather: Weather conditions are always a consideration when doing night sky photography. While it does not have to be a completely cloudless sky, it is best that we have at least 70 percent clear. Nonetheless, we will engage in photography take best advantage of what nature provides us. This could include photographing distant storm clouds, timelapse photography techniques, and more.

Transportation: Travel to and from the workshop is the attendee’s responsibility. Commercial transportation such as air travel and/or rental car expenses will not be reimbursed under any circumstances.
